A3102 Bath Road Bridge

Uploaded: March 12, 2017

I am writing to update you on our work at Bath Road bridge. As you may know, the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order for the road closure ends on March 17. However, we estimate the date for completion of the bridge and additional work will be towards the end of April and thus the closure will be extended. Please see below for our public statement:

“We need to delay the opening of the A3102 to complete the work on the Bath Road bridge due to the engineering challenges of working over an operational railway. The road will be reopened towards the end of April 2017.

“In addition to our current works this extended road closure will give us the opportunity to carry out work that would have required us to come back and further disrupt traffic on the A3102 at a later date, thus in the long run minimising disruption to the community.

“This work includes raising the parapets/bridge walls with iron railings on the listed heritage asset of the Hunts Mill bridge, which is essential to meet European safety standards for electrification. We will also be working during our road closure to improve historical highway drainage issues, helping to prevent flooding within Royal Wootton Bassett.

“The temporary link road built by Network Rail to save motorists a 30-mile detour has coped well with the traffic flow and will remain open for the duration of the A3102 bridge closure.

“We will inform the local community of the opening date as soon as it is confirmed and would like to thank residents and motorists for their patience while we are carrying out this essential work.”

Kind regards
Claire
