M4 Junction 16 – Eastbound Exit Slip Road Surfacing

Uploaded: April 21, 2017

The work at junction 16 is progressing well, with over 10,000 hours worked on site in March. So far we have imported around 7,500 cubic metres to site, which is the equivalent to filling almost 70 double decker buses. Eventually we will import 40,000 cubic metres of clay, which would fill approximately 365 double decker buses!

M4 eastbound exit slip road information
We will soon be carrying out the final carriageway surfacing and white lining on the new widened section of slip road. In order to minimise disruption to the travelling public, this is planned to take place during a full closure of the slip road from 20.00 hrs to 06.00 hrs on 24th, 25th, 26th April (3 nights). While the slip road is closed, the signed and agreed diversion route will be:

Ø Continue along the M4 to junction 15 (Swindon East), then exit the motorway

Ø Travel around the roundabout and get back on the M4 westbound carriageway

Ø Exit the motorway at junction 16 and continue to original route

Although the slip road closure is not expected to cause significant disruption, we would still encourage drivers to check before they travel and allow extra time for their journeys.

After the evening of 26th April traffic will be temporarily switched to use lanes 2, 3 & 4 on the slip road, this is so we can close the hard shoulder and lane 1 to carry out drainage improvements. The hard shoulder works will take approximately 8 weeks.
