Overnight works at M4 Junction 16

Uploaded: February 9, 2018

We are now in the process of preparing for the next change to the traffic management arrangement at Junction 16, which will create the space to construct the separate Hay Lane right turn. In order to do this there has been some daytime drainage work on Hay Lane near to the roundabout and there will be a number of different overnight closures for drainage, ducting and surfacing work starting on Monday, 5 February. While much of the focus will be on the drainage and ducting elements, streetlights and traffic signs continue to be put up and kerbing is being installed.

Planned overnight works from 8.00 pm until 6.00 am:
Monday, 5 February – A3102 Swindon Road northbound only closure.
Tuesday, 6 February – A3102 Swindon Road northbound only closure.
Wednesday, 7 February – A3102 Swindon Road northbound only closure and M4 westbound entry slip closure.
Thursday, 8 February – A3102 Swindon Road northbound only closure and M4 westbound entry slip closure.
Friday, 9 February – A3102 Swindon Road northbound only closure and M4 westbound entry slip closure.

Monday, 12 February to Friday, 16 February inclusive – various lane restrictions on the roundabout.

Monday, 19 February – M4 westbound exit slip closure.
Tuesday, 20 February – M4 westbound exit slip closure and A3102 Swindon Road southbound only closure. Traffic coming from Hay Lane diverted towards Royal Wootton Bassett and then back.
Wednesday, 21 February – A3102 Swindon Road southbound only closure. Traffic coming from Hay Lane diverted towards Royal Wootton Bassett and then back.
Thursday, 22 February – A3102 Swindon Road southbound only closure. Traffic coming from Hay Lane diverted towards Royal Wootton Bassett and then back.
Friday, 23 February – A3102 Swindon Road full closure and M4 westbound entry slip closure.
Saturday, 24 February – A3102 Swindon Road full closure and M4 westbound entry slip closure.
Sunday, 25 February – A3102 Swindon Road full closure and M4 westbound entry slip closure.
In addition, most of Junction 16 will have some lane restrictions in place during the daytime on Saturday, 24 February and Sunday, 25 February.

Diversions:
A3102 Swindon Road full/partial closures: Diversion map for through-traffic below.
Westbound entry slip closure: Traffic diverted onto M4 eastbound to junction 15 and back on the M4 westbound.
Westbound exit slip closure: Traffic diverted to junction 17 and back, although advance warning signage will be in place prior to junction 15.
Access to all residential and business properties will be maintained, although it may not be via your normal route.

We understand that the nature of construction work can be disruptive for road users and that some disturbance is unavoidable, but hope you will benefit from the improvements when the work is complete. Where possible we would also encourage you to check before you travel and allow a little extra time for your journey.
